GERD

Acid reflux that keeps coming back often enough to irritate the esophagus or disrupt daily life.

In simple language

GERD happens when stomach contents move backward into the esophagus often enough to cause burning, sour taste, cough, chest discomfort, or throat irritation. Some people notice symptoms mostly after meals or when lying down.

Persistent reflux can disrupt sleep, eating, and quality of life, and in some cases it can injure the lining of the esophagus over time.
