Condition guide

Type 1 Diabetes

An autoimmune condition where the pancreas makes little or no insulin.

In simple language

Type 1 diabetes is different from type 2 diabetes. It is usually caused by autoimmune damage to the cells that make insulin, so insulin replacement is essential and food or fasting changes have to be planned carefully.

Daily treatment decisions affect blood sugar highs, dangerous lows, exercise tolerance, and long-term eye, kidney, and nerve health.
